Product design engineers and technology developers that design mobile products with an energy-system, face difficulties in the development process. Tools that aid in this process are only available in the form of handbooks, technical data or limited software tools. This results in time consuming and technical complex trade-offs in order to obtain an overview of suitable product-energy-systems.
PowerQuest is a tool that can aid in solving these problems while increasing the amount of freedom in the development process. This tool is being developed since September 2004 to be an intuitive online tool that matches product design parameters to energy-system parameters and vice versa. It provides the user with trade-offs and technical data for suitable product-energy-system solutions. The tool works with the input of technical product design parameters, product usage, and user-context parameters. The platform independent output (PDF, TXT, CSV files) can be used directly in the design process. The tool comprehends an online database where data and matching functions are stored in a modular way. Experts all over the world can update this data through the tailor-made content management system.
